Giant Soldiers

The two Giant Soldiers guarding the Land Ruins

The Giant Soldiers are a pair of great stone warriors that are the guardians of the Land Ruins in Grandia Xtreme. They are only fought upon the second visit to the ruins, where they replace the Minotaur as the level's boss.

Battle Strategy[]

Whilst not a mandatory fight, it is worth taking the Giant Soldiers on for experience and item gains. They guard the Spiritual Atrium of the Land Ruins which, from Chapter Two onwards, will begin to spawn Mana Eggs, Skill Books and other valuable items.

You will need to come prepared for this battle, as it is a significant spike in difficulty from previous bosses. The most important thing you can do is make sure every member (or at least three of the four) of your party has Paralysis resistance. You can buy Paralysis Charms from Locca if needs be. Unless you are very much overlevelled, this setup is completely necessary for this fight; the Giant Soldiers have high ACT and even if you are consistently cancelling their moves, they will get a turn in eventually. They have a powerful move that hits the entire party called Lightning, which will almost always inflict Paralysis if you don't have the resistance in place. On top of this, their Mystery Stream move will lower the ACT of anyone caught in their near vicinity, making it even harder to get cancels off. It is a good idea to move party members away from them where feasible. Luckily, their MOV is incredibly low, and if their target is on the other side of the field, they won't be able to get their regular attacks off.

Thunder Armor is useful here since Lightning is of that element. The Iron Guard skill fully maxed out can nullify the damage from Lightning as well if you have access to it. They are also immune to the Land element, but any other magic works well. Though they can seem tough, as long as you have Paralysis resistance you don't risk getting completely devastated by them.

Trivia[]

The Giant Soldiers operate similar to the Gaia Battlers from the first Grandia game. They have the same Lightning move as well as gas moves that cause status ailments or a decrease in stats.
