The Mother Crustacean in the Flame Ruins

The Mother Crustacean is the boss of the Flame Ruins and the second story boss from Grandia Xtreme. She can be found, accompanied by several Baby Crustaceans, in the Hall of Flame at the end of the level.

Battle Strategy[]

In addition to her Baby Crustaceans, which she can respawn with her Breeding technique, the Mother Crustacean has two Claws that act as separate targets. Her ACT is very high at this point of the game, so it is a good idea to use criticals or base moves to constantly cancel anything she tries to execute, besides her regular attacks. Whilst it can be tempting to try to take out the Baby Crustaceans, she will be very quick to use Breeding and bring more onto the field if their numbers are dwindling.

Hi-Jump is an especially damaging move if you are caught in its range. She can also blast your party with Burnflame, which is especially painful to characters with low Immunity. On top of this, her babies can inflict Poison with their regular attacks. Apart from having a good stock of Poison Antidotes, the Crag Snakes in the earlier levels of the Flame Ruins drop Snake Earrings. Equipping these prevents Poison infliction, which is one less thing to have to worry about.

Myam is an ideal candidate to take along for this fight, provided you have unlocked her Hail Shower move. Accessing this move will also unlock her Feat with Brandol, Sirene Slash, which can be exceptionally useful for chipping away damage.

Whilst not easy, it isn't completely impossible to get a Mana Egg with Ice magic at this stage. This should not be necessary, but can be used as a last resort strategy if you're struggling.

Trivia[]

The Mother Crustacean's breathing sound effect is identical to that of the Tongue of Valmar from Grandia II. She also functions in a similar manner to the Tongue, as both bosses have their claws are also separate targets, and have a move in which they are able to damage a party member by swallowing them and spitting them out.
