The Spirits of Grandia Xtreme are an ever-present force, who appear to influence both nature and magic. The flow of their power throughout the world is referred to as "Ether", or the Geo Stream. Geo Rangers are able to access weak points in this flow, and use it to teleport through openings known as Geo Gates.
The Elemental Disorder raging across the countries of Nortis, Arcada and Hazma is caused by the Elemental Ruins consuming the Spirits' power, and using it in the production of Elemental Beasts. When Evann first witnesses the Elemental Disorder at the Inferno Pit, he sees bird-like creature appears in the raging volcanic fire, which helps him find a safe entrance into the area. He sees here that the Elemental Disorder is causing the Spirits to suffer, and questions to himself if the chaos is their "crying". When he mentions the bird-like vision to the other party members present, they tell him they didn't see it themselves. They conclude that because Evann is a Ranger, he is the only one in their group who is able to see the Spirits.
