Volt Beast

The Volt Beast as found within the structures at the Illusory Meadow

The Volt Beast is a boss enemy encountered in the Venom Ruins in Grandia Xtreme. It is found at the end of the level, at the Red Quartz Throne.

Despite the Volt Beast's name and location - just outside of the Spiritual Atrium of the Venom Ruins - it is not thought to be an Elemental Beast. Entering the Atrium after defeating the Volt Beast will uncover that there is already an Elemental Beast's corpse present.

Battle Strategy[]

The Volt Beast has four targets and can switch between two forms using its Metamorphasis skill. Similar to the arms of the Bone Mantis, when it is upright, it resists magic damage, and when it is downwards, it resists physical damage. You'll want to plan your party's set up accordingly, and preserve your MP whilst trekking through the ruins. If it's in its downward form, element-based Moves will work.

Getting rid of its Horn is the first thing you'll want to do. It casts several Lightning element spells, but when it is downward it can also use Terra Vortex, which will inflict Paralysis on a Circle. This is especially painful if another part has previously used Gravity to cluster your party together. The main body has Gust Bazooka in its upright form, which can inflict Illness, so ideally spread your party out where you can to avoid status effects stacking up on multiple characters. Attention should be paid to the arms in downward form as well, as they can cast Hellburner; if you have a party member with low Immunity, this spell can batter their HP.

It is ideal to complete the four Elemental Ruins again before taking this boss on. Ulk is an ideal candidate for this battle as his Yggdrasil Grace can cure the whole party of Illness and anything and everything inflicted by it. Carmyne is a good choice as well if she has access to Holy Breath; this can keep everyone's HP topped up and undo the damage that multiple Circle Slicers in a row can cause. Myam and Ulk's Feat, Droplets of Life, can be a lifesaver if Illness gets out of hand and you're struggling to recover, but if you've redone the Elemental Ruins you should be sufficiently levelled not to be wiped out by this battle.
